Python for kids: how to get started

Python is the language most schools teach, and it is a great first "real" language for children from about 9. Here is what works: short sessions, code that does something visible, and lots of small wins.

1. Start in the browser

No installing anything. The first two Pythonaut lessons are free and run real Python on any laptop or Chromebook.

2. Make it physical

A micro:bit or Raspberry Pi Pico turns code into flashing lights and sounds. Children who drift off on screens often light up here.

3. Build games

Number guessing, quizzes and text adventures keep kids coming back. Pythonaut's Arcade has dozens of short game challenges.
